Notes for First Time or Infrequent Users
The HTML version of the Functional Viewpoint is arranged in the form of a series of
Index Pages. From the “top-level” Index Pages it is possible to view descriptions and definitions of all the Functions, Data Flows, Data Stores and Terminators included in the Functional Viewpoint, plus a table showing the Functions serving each User Need.
The definitions of acronyms used in the
Index Pages and other terms used in the Functional Viewpoint are provided in the 'Acronym
Definitions' and 'General
Definitions' pages. You are
highly recommended to study these definitions before using the Browsing Tool.
Further
information about the Functional Viewpoint and the Trace Tables can be
found in the following documents on the 'LIBRARY' page of
this Website:
- Functional Viewpoint:
D3.1 (Main Report)
- Trace Tables: D3.6 (Overview Document)

Since the European ITS Framework
Architecture is large and complex, the following guidelines are
provided to facilitate navigation. The availability of some of the
information may depend on the type of Internet Browser being used.
- The “address bar” of the Internet Browser will show the identity of the Page that is currently
open.
- A list of the last few pages visited can be displayed by opening the pull down menu attached to the “Back” button of the Internet Browser. For Microsoft ® Internet Explorer a list of the last 9 pages is shown.
- In some cases the “address bar” of the Internet Browser will show the Pages previously visited.
- Pages previously visited in the current session will be highlighted in a different colour or shade.
- All of the shapes (rectangles, cylinders and lines) illustrating Functional Viewpoint components in a Data Flow Diagram (DFD) are “active”. This means that they can be used to move from the DFD to the Page for the item that they are illustrating.

A Navigation Diagram of this Browsing
Tool can be displayed by opening the related page through
